I got my camera back this evening so I took some photos to show you what I've been working on lately. This is the beginning of the first painting of the little hillside path that is lined with several kinds of ferns and many other varieties plants. Some of them are flowering now. Others are still just a promise of beauty yet to be experienced. I noticed some wild orchid leaves among this verdant green tapestry this morning on my walk. What a joy it is to be able to walk here on this gorgeous sunny Winter becoming Spring day!

First Fern Subject
Well...I chose this vertical view to do the first of the fern path paintings. I've started a painting on a 16" x 12" canvas, but I don't have my camera here to show what's been done on that so far. Within a few days I should be able to update you there. Mahalo for stopping by. Timo

More ferns & moss
Looking back the way you came you can see Bennett Valley Road down below through the foliage on the right.

The Hillside Path
There is an old path that connects this property to the one next door. It is very picturesque in that it is lined with mossy trees and ferns. I have a painting to do for a friend who gave me a series of massages. She mentioned that it would be nice if the painting had ferns in it. So I've been out looking at ferns for the reference and inspiration. Something along this path... Timo

Along the Way
Aloha Ohana, Here's another step along the way, working a full pallette now for all the bright colors.

Getting There!
A few more strokes and a few more shadows presented. I'm still working with a large flat bristle brush at this point, but just using parts of it by changing the angle of application. Next comes the use of Cadmium Green Pale, Cadmium/Barium Green Light, Cadmium Yellow and Cadmium Yellow Light to begin representing the grasses in this late Autumn vineyard scene in Kenwood, California. I've added Pthalo Turquoise to the pallette to began denoting the cooler tones of the shady sides of the trees. The painting is beginning to come more into focus now. Aloha for now, Timo

"Across from Wildwood"
I decided it would be a good idea to show you a photo of the original painting, which was titled "Across from Wildwood". It was an odd size on a canvas stretcher that I built from some scraps, 11" x 28". Oil on canvas, done in 1994.
