I started wiping extra paint on a new canvas last night. This is the first one I've photographed before the canvas was covered with paint. I'll make a sincere attempt at shooting it as often as I think of it from now on. We'll watch it progress together. Aloha, T

Maui Ma'a Progress

The Egg
This little oil painting of an egg is on the back of another painting that I just started working on again. I have a friend who likes the start on the opposite side and will probably end up with the 2-sided masonite panel that supports both works. He likes this side as well though so it will be interesting to see how he chooses to frame it. The size is 9" x 12".

The Edge
Here's another view across part of it from an oblique angle with my fireplace in the background. Just playing with my camera. Mahalo for this great little Nikon, Kenny! I love it!
Epiphany
Well...This became today's project of note so let's notice the more intentful painting going on that of course changed it all. I began to see a "Goddess" form so I made her the focus, still keeping everything very loose and painterly. It has taken on a more dramatic look that has a sort of mystical experience feeling with a hint of mythology. Someone might want to have this one. At 30" x 40" it's a good size for an office or conference room. Interested parties make an appropriate comment and we'll connect. Mahalo & Aloha, Timo
More on "Extra Paint"
The continuing evolution of this non-objective painting is an interesting thing to witness first hand. It gives me a glimpse into a visual realm that doesn't exist elsewhere that I'm a party to creating. I have the feeling that it's a lot more Great Spirit just using my medium to tell me things about myself and what I'm really doing. I enjoy this growth...in perception. Maybe More of this sort of painting will begin to happen. A new and different way of playing with color! Please take a moment to comment on this if you have the time. Mahalo & Aloha, Timo

Finished Portrait of Kara
I finished this small (12" x !6") promotional portrait of "Kara" the pet goat at "Swede's Feeds" in Kenwood, California. I needed something to drum up some local pet portrait business and Kara got picked to be my model. I put her outside in Kenwood instead of using the haybale that was in the photo they gave me to use for reference. That's Sugarloaf in the background. It made a much better painting in my estimation. Mahalo for stopping by. Aloha, Timo

Extra Paint
The pigment that's left on my brush after doing whatever it was picked up for more often than not these days ends up on a canvas such as this 30" x 40" I built when I was on Sonoma Mountain Road. It has changed every day for the last 4 months. I think very little about where the pigment will get layed and just let it sort of go where it wants to go. Usually rubbing it off the bristles in many different kinds of movements and directions. Doing it spontaneously without thinking too much. It's a sort of therepy for me I think. I look at it once in awhile to see if it suggests anything for me to focus on. Something that would bring some aspect of it into a point of focus, I mean. So I did this last night...I started looking at it in all of it's 4 possible positions and when it was rotated to this orientation I felt a shift occur in my vision and I entered a different visual realm for a few moments. It was a very interesting experience. I'll keep you posted on this Non-Objective Painting in progress. Mahalo for checking in! Aloha Ohana, Timo
Kara's Meadow
I'm putting in the brighter colors at this point, the shadows already having been established. Notice how the addition of the yellowgreens especially bring this outdoor setting to life. Small dauby strokes using the bristles vertically to put the lighter warmer colors over the cooler darks, being careful to not to cover up the colors layed before. The goat's portrait was done in one session and I want to preserve that freshness of approach. Realistic, but painterly. I painted the wildflowers before the grasses to get that crispness and cleanliness of color.

The Finished Portrait
It was way over schedule getting done, but I'm very happy with the results and so was their father. Mahalo for stopping by. Aloha, Timo

Back to Kara
I began roughing in the background that I decided on for this small portrait of Kara the goat. A view of the Kenwood area where she lives at "Swede's Feeds" on Highway 12 here in Sonoma County. Because I'm going to use this one for promotion, I wanted to do something that would let people know what I'm capable of. This will be good. Aloha, Timo

Worth the Effort!
There is a certain satisfaction that comes when a painting that has taken much longer than anticipated is everything I'd hoped it would be.

Nearing Completion...
This portrait has taken longer than I thought it would. Isn't that always the case when you're trying for perfection at least in the human portrayal of the unique personalities here. I'm glad it's almost finished. I hope that my friend is happy with the final results. Mahalo & Aloha, Timo
